TRAINEE PROGRAM

Meet Kate Loughlin – Administration Supervisor

I joined Kagan’s Queensland team as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) Trainee

   in May 2006.

As a result of my qualifications at the time, Certificate of Business and Diploma of
Business, I did not need to complete Certificate 3 in Administration as part of the Traineeship.

Throughout all the different functions I undertook during the 12-month Traineeship, three key attributes were critical in each activity – accuracy, efficiency and consistency. The Traineeship provided me with a great logistics foundation – from learning the industry jargon, working in all areas of the Queensland office, to gaining a good understanding on how each job function supports and enhances the end service level Kagan provide to each customer.

I’d recommend this program to anyone interested in working in the logistics industry. Not only do you learn the Administration side of things but you pick up on how warehousing and transport areas really work.

Over the past 2.5 years I’ve worked with nearly all the clients at Kagan’s Queensland site and refined my general warehousing skills and knowledge.

I was lucky enough to be involved in a pilot program, Women Moving Forward, in 2008. This mentoring program, developed by the Australian Logistics Council, provides women in the transport and logistics industry with the opportunity to receive knowledge, information and advice to assist them in their logistics career and the achievement of individual goals.

I took a seven week break after completing this course; arriving back in time to wish our Administration Supervisor all the best as she commenced maternity leave, and to be given the responsibility of this function for the next 12 months. Apart from supporting Queensland’s State Manager, my core responsibilities as Administration Supervisor include:

  • ensuring all orders are dispatched on time by liaising with our transport and warehouse teams
  • ensuring all customer requirements and key performance indicators are met in a timely and efficient manner
  • responding to customer queries, including invoicing problems, stock queries etc.
  • mentoring and assisting the CSRs wherever possible
  • assisting the inventory controller with cycle counts/stocktakes
  • coordinating the office administration, which includes costing and pricing Transport run sheets
  • supervising the Chep account
